What are those little sticks?

i clearly remember my first meal in taiwan. as we went in the restaurant everything was so strange, the characters on the menu, the waitress speaking an unknown language.
we were so hungry so we just ordered by looking at the pictures.
everything seemed fine; when the food was served, we were waiting for the silverware but to our surprise only little sticks were set on the middle of the table.
that day we felt like monkeys...what monkey see...monkey do :-).
after fighting with the food for a couple of minutes i was finally able to grab the food with the chopsticks.
now i am an expert in eating with it..i can even catch a fly with those two little sticks...jejeje..

The Meaning of my name

My name is Beatriz--it is a Latin name it is used in spanish and english speaking countries.
Beatriz means Voyager through life.
i relate very much to this name because stages in life come and go..learning from each experience good or bad... becoming stronger.
it's never good to be stagnant; be a sailboat... just let go and live life as it comes... learn to win but also learn to loose:-)

End Animal Abuse

Test reveals dogs' jelous side

The dog handshake is initially rewarded with food
Scientists in Austria say they have found a basic form of jealousy in dogs.
The Vienna-based researchers showed that dogs will stop doing a simple task when not rewarded if another dog, which continues to be rewarded, is present.

The experiment consisted of taking pairs of dogs and getting them to present a paw for a reward. On giving this "handshake" the dogs received a piece of food.
One of the dogs was then asked to shake hands, but received no food. The other dog continued to get the food when it was asked to perform the task.

Reward value
The dog without the reward quickly stopped doing the task, and showed signs of annoyance or stress when its partner was rewarded.
To make sure that the experiment was really showing the interaction between the dogs rather than just the frustration of not being rewarded, a similar experiment was conducted where the dogs performed the task without the partner. Here they continued to present the paw for much longer.
The dog sees its partner rewarded
Dr Frederike Range from the department of neurobiology and cognition research at the University of Vienna, says this shows that it was the presence of the rewarded partner which was the greater influence on their behaviour.
"The only difference is one gets food and the other doesn't, they are responding to being unequally rewarded." she said.
The researchers say this kind of behaviour, where one animal gets frustrated with what is happening with another, has only been observed in primates before.

Evolution
The researchers say this behaviour, reacting to others receiving rewards, may represent an earlier stage in the evolution of co-operative behaviours seen in human and primates.
"I think it's a precursor, simpler than in humans, it's a selfish behaviour, they don't react to seeing others treated unfairly. With humans they react, say it's unfair, we can't see anything like that in the dogs," said Dr Range.
The dog soon refuses to raise a paw
The researchers say the type of behaviour exhibited in the experiment is probably due to the dog's close association with humans.

So my conclusion is this in comparison to human beings... if even animals are jelous so would you believe a person that says he/she is not jelous? Don't let people lie in your face..jejeje

Good or Bad Habit?

I would like to share one of my habits, for some reason or the other since i was a kid i have this habit of looking at people's shoes. Now i categorize people according to their shoes sometimes its fun because i never know if what i expect of that peorson is what that person will become to be...it is just a matter of time to know whether i was right or wrong.

Simics' poem characterizes shoes as the "secret face of my inner life." So tell me what else knows all your moves, knows where you are going and where you have been, and holds your mysteries? Simic hits on the shoe's humility, its ability to offer guidance, patience, and intimacy.

Something so simple like shoes can tell many different stories so just use your imajination..let it go wild...andbelieve you me it will be fun to find out how right or how wrong you were :-)

MY SHOES

My Shoes
by Charles Simic

Shoes, secret face of my inner life:Two gaping toothless mouths,Two partly decomposed animal skinsSmelling of mice-nests.
My brother and sister who died at birthContinuing their existence in you,Guiding my lifeToward their incomprehensible innocence.
What use are books to meWhen in you it is possible to readThe Gospel of my life on earthAnd still beyond, of things to come?
I want to proclaim the religionI have devised for your perfect humilityAnd the strange church I am buildingWith you as the altar.
Ascetic and maternal, you endure:Kin to oxen, to Saints, to condemned men,With your mute patience, formingThe only true likeness of myself.
